ADA NSW CPD Program Guide : Winter 2014
Current Approaches to Periodontal Therapy A day's exploration of periodontal therapy as seen from one dental academic's perspective Presented by Professor Esmonde Corbet (HK) Date Friday, 22 August 2014 Time 8:30am - 4:30pm Venue Centre for Professional Development, Lithgow Street, St Leonards, NSW Costs (inc GST) ADA Member $495 Non Member $594 Includes lunch and refreshments new program international speaker 23 CPD Hours: 6 Proudly sponsored by The day's immersion starts with considering, is there a "state of the art" approach to the delivery of non-surgical periodontal therapy, seguing through to risk-based approaches to periodontal therapy. The role of conventional periodontal surgical techniques in this the age of evidence- based periodontal regeneration is questioned and the contribution to success of adjunctive therapies is reviewed. Contemporary overviews of the 'perio-endo' conundrum and occlusion set the stage for reflecting on the choice between teeth or implants, side-tracking to ponder on issues such as the role of pre-restorative crown lengthening surgery in saving teeth in this age of dental implants. Dental implants in periodontitis patients seem, at present, to be riskier in terms of peri-implant biological complications than in the peridontally healthy. The current approaches to the prevention and management of these peri-implant biological complications in periodontitis patients will be discussed. The day concludes with considering the evidence that periodontal treatment works and identifying what measures need to be instituted to o er long-term supportive care for treated patients.
